The entire world is currently facing a food shortage, as nations are closing most or all exports of rice and other basic staples to ensure food security for local populations. The food shortage has led to massive inflation and riots in several countries.

The State of Alaska maintains a website which addresses emergency preparedness and encourages Alaskans to have extra food and a survival kit on hand for emergencies such as earthquakes and the bird flu.

Those who can afford to maintain a stockpile of food should consider purchasing a few weeks worth of groceries at minimum for hard times and unexpected emergencies. The food items should be shelf stable (canned goods, rice, peanut butter, sailor boy crackers, etc.) and should be rotated on a regular basis.

TEN THOUSAND IN BOULDER CELEBRATE 420

April 20th, 2008

A massive crowd of 10,000 gathered in Boulder Colorado to smoke cannabis on Sunday afternoon. The crowd were celebrating the holiday which is known as 4/20, or April 20th. Each year, many Americans celebrate marijuana on April 20th. Read more about the crowd in Colorado by clicking here.

Voters in Denver, Colorado’s largest city, voted recently to make possession of less than an ounce of cannabis by adults the lowest priority of law enforcement, effectively decriminalizing marijuana. In Boulder, law enforcement refused to write a single ticket. Colorado State law classifies possession of less than an ounce of cannabis as a petty offense with a $100 fine.

Americans have become more lenient toward the consumption of cannabis in recent years. About a dozen states have passed laws to decriminalize the consumption of marijuana. Many states, including Alaska, have passed laws allowing cannabis to be used for medicinal purposes. The Alaska Supreme Court has ruled that Alaskan residents have the right to possess up to one ounce of cannabis in their home for personal use.

Two new films which address cannabis consumption are set to be released shortly. One film is a documentary called “Super high me“, a parody of “Super size me” where a comedian smokes cannabis for 30 days straight and records the effects. The other film is the anticipated “Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay.”
